How Karter uses cookies, local storage, and similar technologies on the website and in the app.

Karter Labs LLC uses browser storage to run Karter and, if you choose, to understand usage. "Cookies" below includes similar browser storage technologies. This page complements our Privacy Policy.

What these technologies do

A cookie is a small piece of data a website asks a browser to store and send back on later visits. Local storage keeps data in a browser without automatically sending it with each request. Some storage lasts only for a session; other storage persists until it expires or you clear it.

Your choices

Essential storage is needed for sign-in, saved settings, and remembering your privacy choice. Usage analytics is optional. Where consent is required, it starts only after you opt in, and you can reject it and still use Karter.

Use the privacy settings link in the website footer to change your choice. Browser settings can also block or erase stored data, but deleting your privacy choice may make the prompt appear again.

Storage we use

Essential

  • Sign-in cookies: keep you signed in and protect your session. They last until you sign out or the session expires.
  • Privacy choice: remembers the categories you chose.
  • Language and theme: remember your language and light or dark appearance.
  • Onboarding answers (local storage): keep your answers to the questions before sign-up until they are saved to your new account.
  • Focus timer (local storage): keeps a running timer going if you reload the page.

Usage analytics (optional)

After analytics consent, PostHog may use browser identifiers or temporary storage to measure visits and app events. Its identifiers and retention depend on the provider configuration and may change.

First-party and third-party tools

First-party storage is set by Karter, such as the sign-in cookies and your privacy choice. PostHog is a third-party provider. Depending on the tool, an identifier may appear under Karter's domain or a provider's domain; the domain alone does not tell you who receives the data.

When you withdraw consent

Karter stops optional analytics collection. Some third-party identifiers may need to be cleared in your browser. Withdrawal does not undo processing that occurred while you had consented. For deletion requests, contact us using the details below.
