What Karter collects, why we collect it, and how to contact us.

Karter is a short daily focus practice. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how to contact us.

Last updated: October 12, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Karter handles information on the website and in the app. Optional usage analytics run only with your consent.

Information we collect

  • Account information: your name, email address, and the authentication details needed to create and secure your account.
  • Technical information: when you access the website or app, our hosting and security providers may process your IP address, browser or device type, and request time to deliver and protect the service.
  • Onboarding answers: your answers to the short questions before you create an account, such as what motivates you and how your focus has felt lately. They are kept in your browser until you create an account, then saved to it so Karter can show your starting point.
  • Profile and preferences: optional settings such as your goals, breathing pattern, breathing length, reminder time, and sound preference.
  • Practice data: session dates, completion status, breathing drifts, reflection theme and depth rating, anchor results (caught, missed, and false taps), and focus timer blocks.
  • Usage analytics (only with your consent): website visits and in-app interactions, such as which exercises you start and finish. See "Analytics and your consent" below.
  • Local device data: some preferences, including your privacy choices and unfinished onboarding answers, may be stored in your browser so the app can remember them.
  • Support messages: information you choose to send us when you ask for help.

How we use information

  • To provide the Karter app, including sign-in, session logging, progress views, reminders, and settings.
  • To send account emails, such as confirming your email address or resetting your password.
  • To maintain and improve reliability, security, and product quality.
  • To respond to support requests and account deletion requests.
  • To understand whether Karter is helping users build a consistent focus practice.

Payments and subscriptions

Karter is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features, we will update this policy to describe the payment providers and data involved before purchases begin.

Analytics and your consent

Karter uses PostHog to understand how the website and app are used. Where consent is required, optional analytics are off by default and start only if you allow them in the privacy prompt. If you are signed in, app events may be linked to your account.

  • We do not sell your practice data.
  • After you allow analytics, PostHog may use first-party cookies or local storage for identifiers. See our Cookie Policy for more detail.

You can change your choice at any time through the privacy settings link in the website footer. To request deletion of data already collected, contact us using the details below.

Service providers

We use service providers to operate and improve Karter. Our core providers are Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database), Resend (account emails), and PostHog (analytics, only with your consent).

Security

We use access controls and service providers to protect account and practice information. No online service can guarantee perfect security. If you think your account has been accessed without permission, contact us at the address below.

Data retention

We keep account and practice data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide Karter. You can delete your account at any time. After deletion, we will remove or de-identify personal data unless we need to keep limited records for legal, security, or operational reasons.

Your choices

  • You can update practice preferences in Settings.
  • You can reset your practice history in Settings → Reset practice data.
  • You can delete your account as described on the Delete Account page.
  • You can contact support with privacy questions or access requests.

Your privacy rights

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: we process your account and practice data because it is necessary to provide Karter to you (performance of a contract). We process optional analytics data only with your consent. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

If you are a resident of California or another US state with an applicable privacy law: you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to access it, to correct it, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls described above or contact us at the email below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

Children's privacy

Karter is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.

International users

If you use Karter outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as our providers' standard contractual clauses or participation in recognized data transfer frameworks.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Karter changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page.
