This Privacy Policy applies to Karter's website and app experience. By using Karter, you agree to the collection and use of information described here.
Information we collect
- Account information: your email address and authentication details needed to create and secure your account.
- Profile and preferences: optional settings such as your display name, goals, breathing pattern preference, reminder preference, and sound preference.
- Practice data: session dates, completion status, reflection rating, breathing pattern, and concentration drill metrics such as hits, misses, false alarms, and pulse counts.
- Usage analytics and session recordings (only with your consent): in-app events such as which exercises you start and finish, app version, platform (iOS, Android, or web), and recordings of how you move through the app's screens. See "Analytics and your consent" below.
- Local device data: some preferences — including your analytics consent choice — may be stored in your browser or device storage so the app can remember your settings.
- Support messages: information you choose to send us when you ask for help.
How we use information
- To provide the Karter app, including login, session logging, progress views, reminders, and settings.
- To maintain and improve reliability, security, and product quality.
- To respond to support requests and account deletion requests.
- To understand whether Karter is helping users build a consistent focus practice.
Payments and subscriptions
If Karter offers paid subscriptions, payment processing may be handled by third-party providers such as Apple, Google, Stripe, or RevenueCat. We do not store full payment card numbers on Karter's servers.
Analytics and your consent
Karter uses PostHog, a product analytics service, to understand how the app is used. Analytics is off by default and only turns on if you choose "Allow" in the in-app prompt. If you allow it, we record in-app events (for example, starting or completing an exercise), your app version, and your platform. If you are signed in, these events are linked to your account so we can understand whether the practice is working over time.
With the same consent, we also use PostHog session replay to record how you move through the app — which screens you visit and where you tap — so we can find confusing or broken parts of the experience. Anything you type, including your email, password, and goals, is masked on your device and never appears in a recording.
- We do not use analytics for advertising.
- We do not sell or share your data with data brokers or ad networks.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- Analytics data is stored on device using local storage, not advertising cookies.
You can withdraw or grant consent at any time in Settings → Privacy → Usage analytics. Withdrawing consent stops all analytics collection immediately. To request deletion of analytics data already collected, contact us using the details below.
Service providers
We may use trusted service providers to operate Karter, including hosting, authentication, database, analytics, payment, and customer support tools. These providers process information only as needed to provide their services to us. Our core providers are Supabase (authentication and database), Netlify (hosting), and PostHog (analytics, only with your consent).
Data retention
We keep account and practice data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide Karter. You can request account deletion at any time. After deletion, we will remove or de-identify personal data unless we need to keep limited records for legal, security, or operational reasons.
Your choices
- You can update app preferences from Settings.
- You can reset saved session data from Settings where available.
- You can request full account deletion using the instructions on the Delete Account page.
- You can contact support with privacy questions or access requests.
Your privacy rights
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland: we process your account and practice data because it is necessary to provide Karter to you (performance of a contract), and we process analytics data only with your consent. You have the right to access, correct, delete, or receive a copy of your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are a resident of California or another US state with a privacy law: you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to access it, to correct it, and to request its deletion. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, use the in-app controls described above or contact us at the email below. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
Children's privacy
Karter is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
International users
If you use Karter outside the United States, your information may be processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as our providers' standard contractual clauses or participation in recognized data transfer frameworks.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Karter changes. When we do, we will update the date at the top of this page.
